We sent the following email to our Newsletter subscribers recently, but thought this information would be helpful as a blog post as well.
On February 1, Yahoo and Gmail enhanced their requirements for mass email lists. Senders (especially those who email 5,000 users at a time) are now required to meet new requirements – or else emails they send might be rejected or be routed to a recipient’s spam folder.
Even if you do not email 5k users at a time, these are still good guidelines to follow, and by adhering to them, you can improve your domain’s reputation and reduce the likelihood that your emails will be classified as spam.
Sendgrid has a nice article on the topic, which you can read at https://sendgrid.com/en-us/blog/new-sending-requirements-for-gmail-yahoo.
Do you use MailChimp, Brevo, MailerLite, or another newsletter platform? If so, we highly recommend that you setup Domain Authentication (DKIM). This process involves adding a new record to your domain’s DNS settings. Barred Owl Web hosts the DNS for the majority of our customers, and we would be happy to make sure your DNS is setup properly.
We have setup Domain Authentication (DKIM) for all of our clients whose email and DNS we host, but there are additional steps you need to take if you use a mailer platform such as MailChimp or one of the others mentioned earlier.
If you have any questions or concerns, or need help setting up DKIM with your newsletter service, please open a support ticket. You can do so by visiting https://support.barredowlweb.com, or by emailing support@barredowlweb.com (please note that you must be setup in our support system before you are able to generate a support ticket).
For any new web hosting customer that you refer to us, we will give you a month of free web hosting (up to a maximum of $100 per referral).
As a reminder, we provide Managed WordPress services, website hosting on cPanel, managed Virtual Private Servers, and email hosting. We can also provide Datacenter Colocation services. Make sure to review all of our services at https://barredowlweb.com/services/.
